Not only did we relax in Langley, but we also took day-trips to Coupeville and Port Townsend! Coupeville is a town about 30 minutes north on Whidbey Island. Very cute with a lot of fun stores.

We went to the Dog House Tavern in Langley and Erik had chili while I had baked beans. Notice how much I could eat. Plus, see how much of my iced tea I could drink before I ate (and you know the rules, no drinking after you start eating)!

Lots of fun – and boy was it HOT! Well, hot for the Seattle area…about 80 degrees! We had an amazing time in the little beach cabin. To see all of the pictures from the weekend, click here.

We forgot the dogs “doggie prozac” (don’t ask) so we had to stop at the Whidbey vet and have a temporary prescription filled…and while at the vet I saw on the wall a weight loss program for animals! Which included a BMI calculation for cats…and healthy recipes for animal treats…and a sad article about a dog that was fed a diet of beer and donuts.

Our long weekend in Langley, WA on Whidbey Island was nothing short of amazing. From the gorgeous cottage we stayed at to the long days at the dog park to the beautiful beaches and delicious restaurants. I wouldn’t have changed one single thing. For the full set of photos, click here.

The cottage where we stayed was so cute – it’s about 800 square feet and like a log cabin. It has a loft where you sleep and it’s like sleeping in a tree house – waking up to the sound of birds … and that’s it – no noise!

So the great news is that on our last day we saw this for rent sign in the window of this darling waterfront beach house and as luck would have it, we decided to rent the house for the next 2 months! I will be taking Mondays off of work and spending 3 day weekends on Whidbey Island for the next couple of months…in our own private beach house with our own private beach! How amazing is that?!?!?

One of my most loyal readers, Ms. Robbie, asked me if I exercise and I thought I would share my response with all of you.

I do not do anything that will make me break out in a sweat. And, exercising falls into that category. But – I’m not discriminating against exercise. I don’t like being in warm weather…and this includes places like Hawaii or Arizona – at least without air conditioning. I squint when it is above 65 degrees in Seattle and tell my husband that I’m melting. I refuse to take a window office at work and when I’ve been “forced” to have one, I’ll close the blinds and on super sunny days, wear sunglasses in the office…and complain like no other.

Ok – back to the exercising. I don’t like sports, I don’t like running, I don’t like flying kites or riding horses. I don’t even like watching sporting events or the sports section in the newspaper.

Here’s what I don’t mind doing:

  • walking from my car to the elevator…as long as I get a spot that’s close
  • walking around the grocery store
  • throwing the ball for my dogs
  • organizing my closet
  • exercising my brain

So there you have it. I forced myself to walk after I was banded because the doctor told me to. If the doctor told me to run a marathon I would laugh at him. I may take up yoga or start lifting weights or walking more once I start to lose more weight.

But – I try to not do things that I don’t enjoy. It puts me in a sour mood and nobody wants to be around me when that happens. When I lost about 75 lbs on Atkins I didn’t exercise. I walked a bit but not much. I’m not saying this is the right thing to do but I’m just telling you what I do…what keeps me sane and what I’m willing to do.

And there you have it!

exercise sucks

Not too sure what’s gotten into our dogs lately…but today Betty had her pinup model moment. The dear husband Erik captured the moment on film. Check her out!

So I was going to take a break (working from home this week) and rest for 30 minutes. I went upstairs to the bedroom and what did I find…but Betty (boston/rat terrier mix) had stolen my spot. I would say “how rude” but when you get a look at this face, all you want to do is snuggle up next to her. Talk about muscle. This little bundle of energy is all muscle. But such a cute little fart monkey!
